Ecclesiastic museums
An ecclesiastic museum denotes an organized collection of artistic and historical interest and, more rarely, an institute for the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage owned by the Church.
The works on display may be of a religious nature and regarding the geographic area in which the museum is located, or be collections of various kinds (archaeological, ethnographic, bibliographic) acquired as private donations or from different countries of the world, as in the case of missions. The museum may be independent and a legal entity, or an integral part of the ecclesiastic body to which it belongs (diocese, order or religious congregation).
